The Haven Cafe, Lymington

The Haven Cafe, Lymington

Overlooking the Solent, The Haven Café, Restaurant & Bar is the perfect spot to sup and water the world go by. Situated right in the Yacht Haven Marina, and as you would expect, it’s rather famous for excellent fish and shellfish, that and being co-owned by DJ Chris Evans…

Opening Times:
Mon-Fri 9am til midnight
Sat&Sun 8am til midnight

All about authenticity, the passion for local produce and attention to detail alongside their fab wine list means that you will want to spend your time by the water. From suppers in the snug around the fire, to late evenings with wine on the deck overlooking the sea and lunch in the restaurant with friends and family, The Haven is the place to be when you've booked a boutique cottage in Lymington.

The man at the helm is Head Chef, James Dorey. James is all about sourcing local food and making the most of their enviable marina spot. Old Town Quay is a commercial fishing port, bringing in schools of fabulously fresh fish and shellfish straight to James’ kitchen.

A quote from a regular

After a wander of about an hour, we had lunch at the Haven, a fabulous first-floor restaurant overlooking the vista, which offers an excellent menu, a cheery owner (Rob) and friendly and efficient waiting staff. And the really cool thing? Each table is provided with its own pair of binoculars in case the desire for lunchtime observation takes hold. Fantastic.

- Chris Evans, Radio 2 DJ

Tuck in to Native Oysters with Shallots and Chilli Vinegar or go traditional with Moules Mariniere and proper crusty bread - after all the sauce is the best bit. James’ main courses are similarly piscatorial, find Bouillabaisse with Solent Fish and Shell Fish, Crusty Bread and Rouillie or go large with the Fish for Two, as fresh as you can get with catch of the day. The crew roast the fish on the bone and serve it with lashings of butter, lemon, capers and samphire. Yum.

The crew at The Haven are well versed in wines too. From connoisseurs to vino-lovers the ship shape sommeliers can pair food and wine to enhance the whole experience.

If fish ain’t your thing, well there are other options on the menu for meaties and veggies alike. I urge you to try the fishy though, The Haven is an excellent find with such amazing panoramic views!
