Cardigan Castle, Cardigan

Dating back to the 11th Century, Cardigan Castle became plunged into a turbulent existence almost as soon as it was completed. From Norman invaders to the devastation of the Black Death, to the English Civil War and the ravages of time, Cardigan Castle offers a fascinating insight into the area’s past.

Having undergone various reconstruction projects throughout its life the castle finally reopened in 2015 to the public, ready to unveil some of its intriguing past. An historical treasure, the Grade I listed building offers a wonderful family-friendly day out, with vast amounts of things to see and do.

Visit the new heritage centre and learn all about the castle’s past, from its medieval conception right up until the present day. Visitors can enjoy walks around the beautiful Georgian mansion and explore the medieval walls and castle remains. Exhibitions are held throughout the year and an array of events take place to enthral and excite.

Make sure you save some time to wander the castle’s grounds too. Here, all sorts of rare plants can be found. There is even a restaurant overlooking the river where you can tuck into a delicious meal after a day of adventuring.
